Host(s): Kris SteinnesGuest(s): Suzanne RuffStation(s): WBLQ, Transformation_Talk_Radio Voices of Women with Host Kris Steinnes, interview of Suzanne Ruff, author of The Reluctant Donor. Suzanne Ruff is on a mission to spread the word about the importance of Organ Donation. The last time you renewed your driver's license, did you check the box that says "Organ Donor?" Suzanne Ruff hopes the answer is yes. She has volunteered in many states to raise awareness about organ donation. "My family would have pretty much been wiped off the face of the Earth if it weren't for the generosity of organ donors," she said. Her mother and two sisters, as well as several aunts and uncles and cousins have all needed kidney transplants to save their lives. During the 10 months that lapsed between the day she made the offer to donate a kidney to her younger sister and the day of the surgery, Ruff considered backing out several times. She kept her emotions in check through prayer and by journaling, eventually going through with the surgery on Oct. 19, 2004. More than eight years later, both women are doing great, and celebrating the publication of Suzanne's book about their journey. Together they are spreading the word to end this disease. A portion of the proceeds from The Reluctant Donor goes towards kidney disease research.

Despite her multiple sclerosis, Gagliardo became a top customer service representative and established the first telemarketing division for a major pharmacy manufacturer, setting sales records and becoming the go-to person for her division. But when her illness grew more challenging, the company dismissed her rather than provide the accommodations required under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Backed by a supportive husband and a dedicated attorney, she fought for the rights of all Americans with disabilities against the might of Big Pharma. CALL TO WITNESS tells how she overcame disability, a violently abusive childhood and intimidation by a major industry to join the ranks of the modern heroines of our time.
